The phrase, “I’ll believe it when I see it” is one we are all too familiar with but it does raise many issues in my mind. If the eyes are to be the tool by which we measure absolute truth then we will be easily deceived, either deliberately or by chance.
A common football quote is to “give the goalkeeper the eyes”, in other words look as if going to shoot in one direction but then shooting in the opposite…..
It is easy to misundersand the actions or words of somebody simply because we did not see their reasons for doing or saying it. This is true, is it not?
The unfortunate part of life is that we rarely get the chance to explain the reasons why we did or said what we did. And when we do the other person has already judged the situation from their perspective and is not likely to see your side anyway.

I am often asked the same questions by prospective pupils or their parents when they phone up for driving lessons. How much? How many lessons does it take to pass? What is your availability? I always try to find out their motivation for wanting to learn and usually it is to get freedom, although some times there is a need to pass a driving test yesterday!
