Who Are We?

Who Are we?

“We are a separate conscious entity living within the grasp of a continuous and growing consciousness within the global  confines of an equilibrium point split between the extremes of a society that continues to divide itself by opinion and continually wants to oppose the freedoms of others to have their conscious experience in a continuous exchange of ideas and philosophies that contradict and oppose the true values of balance and freewill where peace should exist in knowing that the views you are opposed to are the same views you hold but expressed in a different way.”

Wow, when I typed that into my laptop I didn’t quite expect a reply like that and , at first glance, I thought it was just a jumble of words thrown together by an over active mind desperate to free itself of the confines of the UK coronavirus lockdown. But the more I read it the more the mist began to clear.

I am used to talking to people about philosophy and spiritual growth who have told me that I come out with such great pieces of wisdom and I have always wondered why because most of the time I can’t really remember what I have said. I remember the general idea but I can’t remember the detail so having this down in writing gives me an opportunity to dissect it for myself and see if it means something profound to me or if it is, indeed, random words from an old soul who has just randomly regurgitated them as if the dictionary has just exploded!

“We are a separate consciousness”…..now I’m already confused. My belief has always been that we are part of the same consciousness as we are all connected to spirit, the Universe, the Creator, the creative force, whatever it is that bonds us together and keeps us whole whilst we are experiencing our individual experiences of the creative force. Maybe the idea of the separate consciousness refers to the idea of separation from source at birth and the isolation we feel whilst all along being connected to source whilst finding our connection as we go through life. I need a sit down already.

“living within the grasp of a continuous and growing consciousness”…….aah, now it makes more sense. We are in the grasp of a continuous consciousness and that would explain the whole to me, and the fact that is it continuous and growing means that it is never stationary and continues to expand presumably as a result of our inputs into the whole as individual receptors of our experiences. Here come the big words again! So as we all grow and experience individually we report our experiences back to the whole consciousness and it continues to adjust and develop as a result, a little like all the sensors around a car sending back signals to the main computer control units that can then adjust the performance of that car to suit the conditions as they have developed. Sorry for going all mechanical but it makes sense to me this way.

“within the confines of an equilibrium point” …….now I’m confused. Surely the equilibrium point should be within the confines of the whole so the whole can balance itself around the fulcrum of the equilibrium. I wonder if the confines referred to are the rules that this philosophy should abide to. In other words the rules of this particular dimension are that everything must balance around the equilibrium so that all values must keep the point of equilibrium and not unbalance the centre point and would have to be rebalanced by other forces to contain the equilibrium within which we are governed. Phew, that took some working out and I’m not sure I fully understand it myself yet.

“split between the extremes of a society that continues to divide itself by opinion”……don’t we know this one too well, especially in these difficult times. Whether opinion is deep grained within the individual as a result of upbringing and conditioning by the society and the people who raised us and influenced us or whether by education , mainstream or other sources, or by the quest to further a knowledge and understanding of things, then it is fair to say that everyone has an opinion ……about everything. Is that a bad thing? In these modern times we are encouraged to have an opinion and express it at every opportunity because to say nothing or to mediate between both views is often seen as sitting on the fence and not worthy of consideration. And opinions are often driven by media influence and the authority given to them by the correct individual endorsement as well as the belief that there are trustworthy sources and untrustworthy sources which then leads to those who want to change public opinion to cleverly create a campaign to push an opinion that appeals to those targets that will accept it and not accept anything differently.

“and continually wants to oppose the freedoms of others to have their conscious experience”………now it gets serious and sinister. We have created a society where opinions are taken to represent an extreme view instead of a slight bias. In these days of separation we are either sheeple or anti vaxxers, republicans or democrats, muslims or christians, there really is no in between. So is this a fabrication of media outlets who like it to be this way or is this a reflection of group behaviour where not only an opposite ideology is disagreed with but there is a need to try and banish it as a complete extreme to our own point of view?

“in a continuous exchange of ideas and philosophies that contradict and oppose”…….wow, isn’t this the whole point of philosophy? To challenge and question ideas and opinions that either oppose your point of view or at least challenge your own knowledge to question your own beliefs? If we do not do this then we cannot grow mentally or spiritually, and if we  ignore the teachings and beliefs of others then we are doomed to live life in a convenient box that gives us comfort but no life. And that is continuous, the world changes, we change, ideas change, knowledge changes.

“the true values of balance and freewill where peace should exist”…….now we are seriously in the right game zone. Balance, the secret to life. Eat too much sugar and we get unhealthy, eat too little and we lack the energy needed to carry out our physical and mental activities. In balance we have everything and when we feel the scales tip and the balance swing then we can swing it back by whatever means necessary. But we have freewill, in other words we can do whatever the hell we want! We learn that if we drink too much alcohol in a night we will suffer in the morning. Does it stop us from doing it again? Certainly not, some lessons we never learn and some lessons we choose to forget to learn. we have freewill to carry out any ill advised adventure we wish to but we learn that if we carry them out there will always be a consequence that tips us over and out of balance with life, like a headache in the morning! And when in balance, peace exists, whether in meditation, achievement, or just being. That is it , just being. No reasons given.  There will always be something to swing us out of balance but the time when we achieve balance again is…….peace.

“in knowing that the views you are opposed to are the same views you hold but expressed in a different way”………..how many times have we had an argument with someone only to find out that , at the end of the argument, we both agreed with each other but didn’t understand that because we were saying it in a different way that neither of us could understand? If we have two groups trying to argue that prejudice is wrong then why are they arguing and cannot see their agreement? It is because one group will state their case from their angle or experiences of prejudice whilst the other will state their case from a different viewpoint and all that gets highlighted is the differences between them and not the similarities. They are both stating their dislike of prejudice yet have managed to argue over it instead of recognizing the common theme and beginning to understand each others  difficulties and empathize. Words are so easy to misunderstand both in their sound and the way they are presented whether written or spoken but feelings cannot lie, it is a far more useful language but we rely on words too often and love to share as many words as we can in offering our opinion. Since when did positive need to be explained as 100% positive. It either is or it isn’t.

So I have dissected the phrase that was presented to me by my own internal computer and, having done so, I can now feel somewhat relieved that what I wrote isn’t complete nonsense although a little long winded. Of course, every observer will see things differently from their point of observation and I am sure there will be parts of this that resonate and parts that make no sense but at least, to me, it now makes more sense.

Next time I’ll just ask Alexa
